We tend to forget about our little feathered friends in the winter and when I am out of bird seed I gather up left over cornbread, or any bread, chip crumbs and crackers and crumble them all up together in a bowl. The birds and probably the squirrels will have a feast on this for a while as long as it does not rain. I try to always save any old bread, chips, crackers or whatever I have on hand, to throw out to the birds and other critters. If you do this just let the breads sit out a day or so to dry some, makes it easier to crumble and throw out. If you don't want to wait a day or so for it to dry out, you can put it in the oven on low to dry it out quicker.
